The SUMITOMO 16CDBBB is a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) turning insert engineered for precision machining of non-ferrous metals. Manufactured to the NF-CCMX insert style, it carries a DA2200 grade designation and is supplied uncoated, allowing the PCD cutting edge to work directly against the workpiece. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a relief angle of 7 degrees, producing clean, accurate cuts with reduced cutting forces. At 0.1102 inches in length with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and a corner radius of 0.0078 inches, this insert is sized for fine finishing and semi-finishing operations. It is held in place via screw clamping and conforms to both ANSI and ISO 13399 standards.
This insert is intended for turning applications on non-ferrous workpiece materials such as aluminum, copper alloys, and similar materials where PCD tooling delivers superior surface finish and extended tool life compared to carbide. The X chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip flow during continuous turning passes. Machinists and CNC operators running lathes and turning centers in production and job-shop environments will find this insert suitable for light to moderate depth-of-cut finishing passes. It is sold individually per package with a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces.
Designed for use in NF-CCMX style screw-clamp turning toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, 3/32-inch thick diamond-shape insert with clearance code C and tolerance code M. Intended for non-ferrous metal turning applications on CNC lathes and manual turning centers.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque - do not overtighten, as PCD inserts are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamping force. Verify insert seating and edge orientation before resuming cutting operations.
