The SUMITOMO 16CDBBB is a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) uncoated turning insert designed for precision indexable turning and profiling operations. Belonging to the NFCCMX Series C family, this insert features an 80-degree diamond geometry that provides a strong cutting edge suitable for high-precision finishing and light roughing passes. With an inscribed circle diameter of 1/4 inch and a corner radius of 0.0078 inches, it delivers tight-tolerance surface finishes on non-ferrous metals, composites, and other abrasion-resistant workpiece materials. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning cells are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for indexable turning and profiling applications where long tool life and consistent surface finish are required. PCD inserts are commonly applied when machining non-ferrous materials such as aluminum alloys, copper, brass, and carbon fiber reinforced composites. The 80-degree diamond shape supports a range of turning profiles including external and internal diameters. The insert measures 0.1102 inches in length and is packaged individually, with a minimum order quantity of 10 units, making it appropriate for shop floor replenishment and production tooling programs.
Designed for use in NFCCMX Series C indexable turning toolholders that accept a 1/4 inch inscribed circle diamond-geometry insert. Confirm toolholder seat geometry and clamping method before installation.
Indexable turning inserts are seated and secured by a machinist or CNC setup technician following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping procedure. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is placed in an e-stop or locked-out state before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or clamping screw driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to avoid damaging the insert seat. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to maintain proper contact and cutting geometry.
