The SUMITOMO 16CD354 is a Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) turning insert designed for precision machining of non-ferrous materials. This single-tipped, triangular insert follows the TPG style with a 60-degree included angle, an 11-degree relief angle, and a neutral rake angle. The DA2200 grade PCD coating process delivers the cutting-edge hardness required for high-speed, tight-tolerance work on aluminum, copper, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, it fits standard clamp-style toolholders used in CNC turning centers and manual lathes. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations on non-ferrous metals in both production and job-shop environments. The TPG style and G tolerance code make it compatible with a wide range of commercial clamp-style toolholding systems. The neutral rake geometry promotes predictable chip flow and consistent surface finish on aluminum alloys, copper alloys, and similar materials where PCD tooling is the industry standard choice. It carries ANSI and ISO 13399 compliance and uses the ISO designation TPGN160304 for cross-referencing across tooling catalogs.
Designed for use in clamp-style TPG toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle triangular insert. Primary workpiece material is non-ferrous metal. ISO designation TPGN160304 can be used to cross-reference equivalent holders and inserts across manufacturer catalogs.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing any insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips before clamping the insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance for the clamping screw to avoid insert cracking or movement during the cut.
