The SUMITOMO 14HD316 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for high-performance face and shoulder milling operations. Manufactured to AXMT insert style in a parallelogram shape with an 85-degree included angle, this insert features a PVD-applied ACK300 coating that enhances wear resistance and tool life in demanding cut conditions. The 11-degree relief angle reduces cutting forces at the workpiece interface. With a cutting edge effective length of 0.689 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.551 inches (14.00 mm), this insert is suited for productive material removal in both roughing and semi-finishing passes. Installation and tool changes are handled by machining professionals and CNC setup technicians.
The 14HD316 is optimized for cutting cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material group K. It is compatible with the WEX3000 cutter series and uses a G-style chip breaker configuration that manages chip flow effectively in interrupted and continuous cast iron milling. The right-hand cutting orientation must be matched to the appropriate cutter body and pocket orientation. This insert is suited for production machining environments where consistent tool life and chip control in ferrous materials are priorities.
Designed for use with the WEX3000 cutter series. Verified for right-hand insert pockets accepting the AXMT insert style with insert size code 1235. Primary workpiece material compatibility is cast iron (ISO material group K).
Insert seating and torque should follow the cutter body manufacturer specifications for the WEX3000 series. Always index or replace inserts with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Use the correct torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the clamping screw.
