The SUMITOMO 14HB897 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. It carries the ACP300 manufacturer grade and features a PVD-applied coating for extended tool life and improved wear resistance. The insert is SEMT style with a square shape, an inscribed circle of 0.5 inches, a thickness of 3.97 mm, and a width of 0.19 inches. It incorporates a G-style chip breaker to manage chip flow and reduce cutting forces. This insert is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in CNC milling operations where surface finish and tool longevity are critical.
The 14HB897 is rated for primary workpiece materials including stainless steel and steel, corresponding to ISO material codes M and P. It is compatible with the WGX cutter series and fits insert size code 13T3. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose milling on CNC machining centers in both production and job-shop environments. The 20-degree relief angle supports clean cutting action on difficult-to-machine alloys.
Designed for use with the WGX cutter series. Rated for ISO material groups M (stainless steel) and P (steel). Insert size 13T3 with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified insert screws to secure the insert in the cutter body pocket. Inspect the pocket seat for damage or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and prevent premature failure.
