The SUMITOMO 14EK323 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for high-performance metal removal in milling applications. It features a parallelogram shape with an AXET insert style and carries the DL1000 manufacturer grade with a DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating process. The insert measures 0.219 inches thick, 0.402 inches wide, and 0.689 inches long, with an 11-degree relief angle. A corner radius of 0.008 inches and a cutting edge effective length of 17.54 mm make this insert well suited to precision milling passes on non-ferrous materials. Licensed HVAC technicians and machinists working in CNC milling environments will recognize the AXET style geometry as optimized for light, consistent chip formation.
This insert is intended for use on non-ferrous metal workpieces, including aluminum and other N-group materials. The DLC coating provides a hard, low-friction surface that resists built-up edge on soft, gummy materials. It is sized to the 170502 insert size code and is compatible with the WEX3000 cutter series. Typical install scenarios include face milling and shoulder milling operations on CNC machining centers where consistent surface finish and edge retention are priorities. The insert is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use with the WEX3000 cutter series. Insert size code 1705 corresponds to the 170502 insert size designation. Verify seat geometry and clamping method against cutter body specifications before installation.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key torque tool as specified by the cutter body manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
