The SUMITOMO 14BX645 is a solid carbide milling insert in the APMT style, grade ACZ350, with a TiN/AlN coating applied for extended wear resistance in demanding cutting applications. The insert measures 0.63 inches long, 0.375 inches wide, and 0.218 inches thick, with a corner radius of 0.031 inches. Its parallelogram shape features an 85-degree included angle and an 11-degree relief angle, producing a cutting edge effective length of 16.00 mm. The right-hand configuration and coated carbide substrate make this insert well suited for milling operations where tool life and edge retention are priorities. Machinists and tooling technicians working in production shops install this insert in compatible APMT-style milling toolholders.
This insert is engineered for milling stainless steel, corresponding to ISO material code M. It fits into APMT-style indexable milling cutters that accept the 1605 insert size code. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose milling operations on stainless steel components in aerospace, medical, food processing, and industrial fabrication environments. The ACZ350 grade is positioned for cutting conditions where a tough, coated carbide is required to manage work hardening and heat generation associated with stainless steel.
Designed for use in APMT-style indexable milling toolholders accepting the 1605 insert size. Confirm toolholder seat geometry, insert pocket dimensions, and screw torque specifications against the toolholder manufacturer documentation before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle completely before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert, as contamination affects seating accuracy and cutting performance.
