The SUMITOMO 144W423 is a solid carbide coated milling insert in the ACM300 manufacturer grade, designed for use in indexable milling cutters operating in demanding metalworking environments. Featuring a parallelogram shape (AXMT insert style) with an 85-degree included angle and an 11-degree relief angle, this insert is engineered for precise material removal in stainless steel and superalloy applications. The PVD coating process delivers surface hardness and wear resistance suited for high-temperature cutting conditions. At 0.402 inches wide and 0.138 inches thick, with a corner radius of 0.031 inches, the 144W423 is a right-hand insert intended for professional machinists and toolroom technicians.
This insert is suited for milling operations on stainless steel and superalloys, material categories M and S respectively. It delivers a maximum depth of cut of 0.551 inches (14.00 mm) and a cutting edge effective length of 0.689 inches, making it applicable for medium to roughing passes in production and job-shop environments. It is compatible with the WEX3000 cutter series and incorporates an E chip breaker geometry. Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians as part of a standard insert indexing procedure.
Compatible with the WEX3000 cutter series. Insert size code 1235, insert size designation 170508. Intended for right-hand milling operations on stainless steel and superalloy workpieces.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician with the spindle and machine fully powered down and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or insert-clamp wrench specified by the cutter body manufacturer when seating the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before installing a new insert. Verify cutter rotation direction and insert hand orientation before resuming operation.
