The SUMITOMO 144W422 is a solid carbide coated milling insert designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. It features an AXMT insert style with a parallelogram shape and a manufacturer grade of ACM300. The PVD coating process delivers a wear-resistant surface suited for interrupted cuts and abrasive workpiece materials. With a relief angle of 11 degrees and an inscribed circle of 0.26 inches, this insert is engineered for precision fitment in compatible milling cutter bodies. It is installed by CNC machinists and tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments where consistent insert geometry is critical to surface finish and tool life.
This insert is intended for use on stainless steel and superalloy workpieces, material codes M and S. It is compatible with the WEX2000 cutter series. The EH chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation during side and face milling operations. It is well suited for both roughing and semi-finishing passes where depth of cut must be managed carefully to protect the cutting edge and maintain dimensional accuracy on difficult-to-machine materials.
Designed for use with the WEX2000 cutter series. Compatible with milling cutter bodies accepting AXMT-style inserts with insert size code 1235. Primary workpiece material compatibility includes stainless steel and superalloys (material codes M and S).
Installation is performed by qualified CNC tooling technicians or machinists. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the insert clamp screw to the cutter body specification provided by the cutter manufacturer - do not estimate clamp torque. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper insert contact and prevent premature edge failure.
