The SUMITOMO 144W421 is a solid carbide coated milling insert designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. It carries the ACM300 manufacturer grade and features a PVD coating process that extends cutting edge life under abrasive conditions. The insert has a parallelogram shape (AXMT style), a right-hand cutting orientation, an 85-degree included angle, and an 11-degree relief angle. With a corner radius of 0.0315 inches (0.80 mm) and a maximum depth of cut of 0.3940 inches (10.00 mm), this insert is suited for precision milling work where edge geometry and substrate quality directly affect surface finish and tool life.
This insert is primarily intended for machining stainless steel and superalloys, material categories classified as M and S in standard cutting tool nomenclature. It is compatible with the WEX2000 cutter series and features an E-style chip breaker. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and contour milling operations on CNC machining centers in industrial, aerospace, and energy sector environments. The insert is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units, making it suitable for shop stock replenishment or tooling setups where consistent grade and geometry are required.
Designed for use with the WEX2000 cutter series. Primary workpiece material compatibility includes stainless steel and superalloys (material codes M and S). Insert size code is 1235 with an inscribed circle range of 0.2500 to 0.3000 inches and a thickness range of 0.1250 to 0.1500 inches.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician following the cutter body manufacturer guidelines for the WEX2000 series. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the cutter body to achieve proper clamping without over-torquing the insert screw. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or wear before seating a new insert to ensure correct geometry and seating contact.
