The SUMITOMO 10R4AMS is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe applications. It carries the ANSI designation CCGT32.50.5MEFM and ISO code CCGT09T302MN-SC, conforming to both ANSI and ISO 13399 standards. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape (Shape Code C) with a positive rake geometry and a 7-degree relief angle. The AC1030U grade substrate is finished with Sumitomo's Absotech Bronze PVD coating, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection suited to finishing and semi-finishing cuts. At 0.1563 inches thick with a 0.0078-inch corner radius, this insert is sized for light to moderate material removal in high-precision setups. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators working in production and job-shop environments.
The 10R4AMS is intended for turning cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material grades K, M, and P (material grade designations M30 and P30). The MEFM chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip flow during finishing passes on these material types. The neutral cutting direction makes this insert interchangeable in neutral-hand toolholders. It is well suited to close-tolerance turning where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required. Pin and screw insert-holding methods are supported, offering flexibility across compatible toolholder styles.
Designed for use with CCGT-style neutral-hand toolholders that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 80-degree diamond insert with a 4.40 mm hole diameter. Compatible with toolholders using pin, screw, or combined pin-and-screw clamping. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron (K), stainless steel (M), and steel (P).
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw or pin to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and prevent insert rocking. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable OSHA machine guarding requirements when changing inserts on live tooling setups.
