The SUMITOMO 1033W3R is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Manufactured to ANSI code DNGG432ESUJ and ISO code DNGG150408N-SUJ, this insert features a 55-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake geometry. The H1 grade uncoated solid carbide substrate is well suited for finishing and light interrupted cuts on non-ferrous metals. The ESUJ chip breaker geometry promotes consistent chip control during turning operations. This insert is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC setup technicians working in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is primarily intended for turning non-ferrous metals such as aluminum alloys, copper, and similar materials. The uncoated H1 grade carbide provides sharp cutting edges without the added friction of a coating, which is an advantage when cutting soft, gummy, or sticky non-ferrous workpiece materials. It is applicable in both roughing passes at conservative depths and finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. The ESUJ chip breaker profile supports controlled chip evacuation in these materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert compatible with DNGG-style toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick, 55-degree diamond insert with clamp and pin holding method per ANSI and ISO 13399 standards.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the machine in a full stop and lockout/tagout procedures followed before accessing the turret or toolpost. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp hardware when seating the insert to avoid edge chipping or improper seating. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before installing a new insert. Verify the insert is fully seated and the clamp pin is properly engaged before resuming cuts.
