The SUMITOMO 1033W3N is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This uncoated, neutral-hand insert features an 80-degree diamond shape (CNGG style) with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius, making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes on non-ferrous metals. Manufactured to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards, the H1 grade carbide substrate delivers consistent edge integrity without a coating, which reduces built-up edge when cutting aluminum, brass, copper, and similar workpiece materials. The ESUJ chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip flow at elevated cutting speeds.
This insert is primarily intended for turning non-ferrous metals in light-to-medium material removal applications. The negative rake and zero-degree relief angle (clearance code N) are characteristic of robust insert geometries used in rigid machine setups where insert security and repeatability are priorities. The CNGG style and CN series designation place this insert within a widely used ISO-compatible tooling family, typical in production turning environments at aerospace, automotive, and general machining shops. Clamp and pin holding methods are supported.
Designed for use in CNGG-style toolholders within the CN series that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp and pin holding. Verify toolholder pocket geometry, insert thickness tolerance code G, and clearance code N before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping components are free of chips and debris before torquing the clamp or pin to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Do not exceed the insert's rated cutting parameters for the workpiece material.
