The STEEL CITY 52-C-14 is a square box plaster ring designed for use with 4-inch square electrical boxes in standard drywall construction. Raised 3/4 inch, it accommodates a single device opening and provides 5 cubic inches of additional capacity. The ring is fabricated from hot-rolled pre-galvanized AISI C-1008 steel meeting ASTM G90-U at 0.062 inches thick, giving it the corrosion resistance and structural rigidity required for behind-wall installations. A quick-release locking mechanism allows fast inner-ring adjustment without tools, and a built-in measured rule on the inner ring supports accurate pre-fab setup before drywall is hung. Licensed electricians and electrical contractors are the primary installers.
The 52-C-14 is suited for residential and light commercial rough-in wiring work where a 4-inch square outlet box needs to be brought flush with or slightly proud of finished drywall. It accepts a single device such as a receptacle, switch, or low-voltage bracket. The adjustment screws are positioned outside the inner ring to preserve the full 5-cubic-inch device capacity, which is critical when working with larger duplex receptacles, GFCI devices, or combination devices where wire fill is a concern. The locking mechanism sits behind the outer ring, protecting it from accidental damage during router cutouts or taping and mudding operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard rough-in plaster ring for use with 4-inch square electrical device boxes requiring a 3/4-inch raised, single-gang opening.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC requirements for box fill and device mounting. Shut off branch circuit power at the panel before making any wire connections. Secure the ring to the box before drywall work is complete, using the built-in rule to set the correct depth for the finished wall surface. Do not over-tighten the locking mechanism, as the quick-release design is intended for hand-adjustment during pre-fab and final fit.
