The STARRETT 72737 is a mechanical outside micrometer designed for precision measurement in the 9 to 10 inch range with a graduation of 0.0001 inches. Built for machinists, toolmakers, and metrology professionals, this micrometer features a ratchet thimble that delivers consistent, repeatable measuring pressure across every reading. The frame carries a Starrett Satin Chrome finish that reduces glare during use and resists rust in shop environments. A hammertone baked enamel coating on the frame adds durability. With a throat depth of 5 inches, the tool can reach comfortably into workpieces where a shallow-frame design would fall short.
This micrometer is suited for precision dimensional inspection in manufacturing, machining, and quality-control applications where large-diameter parts in the 9 to 10 inch range must be verified to ten-thousandths of an inch. It is appropriate for use on shafts, bores measured via transfer, and large turned or ground workpieces. Licensed metrology technicians, journeyman machinists, and QC inspectors are the typical users in tool rooms, production floors, and inspection labs.
Designed as a standard mechanical outside micrometer for use in tool rooms and production environments requiring large-range precision measurement up to 10 inches.
No permanent installation is required for this measuring instrument. Before use, clean the measuring faces with a lint-free cloth and verify the micrometer reads correctly at its reference standard or with a gauge block set. Store the tool in its case when not in use, and do not leave the measuring faces in contact under pressure during storage. Calibration should be performed by a qualified technician in accordance with your facility metrology program.
