The STARRETT 68019 is a mechanical outside micrometer designed for precision linear measurement in trade and industrial settings. It covers a 4-inch measurement range with a graduation of 0.0001 inches and an accuracy of 0.0001 inches, making it suitable for close-tolerance work in machining, fabrication, and mechanical service. The thimble uses a ratchet stop mechanism for consistent measuring force, and the satin chrome finish reduces glare during use. Measuring faces are solid carbide for extended wear resistance. A ring-type lock nut secures the spindle position once a reading is taken.
This micrometer is used wherever outside diameter, thickness, or width measurements must be held to tight tolerances. Typical applications include verifying shaft diameters, stock thickness, and machined part dimensions in machine shops, tool rooms, and mechanical service environments. The flat anvil design suits flat and cylindrical workpieces. Both the anvil and spindle diameter are 0.25 inches, and the spindle does not rotate during measurement, which helps prevent workpiece marring on sensitive surfaces.
Designed as a standard outside micrometer for general precision measurement applications requiring a 4-inch range and 0.0001-inch resolution.
Outside micrometers require no installation but should be calibrated against a known standard before use, particularly after storage or transport. Clean the anvil and spindle faces before each use to prevent debris from affecting accuracy. Store the micrometer with a slight gap between the anvil and spindle to allow for thermal expansion. This instrument should be handled and maintained by personnel familiar with precision metrology practices.
