The STARRETT 64885 is a drop indicator split collet designed to mount and secure AGD-style indicators in inspection and measurement setups. Machined from steel for rigidity and durability, this collet accepts an 8.00 mm inside diameter and features an M12 x 1.75 threaded shank with a 7 mm thread length. It is used by machinists, metrologists, and precision measurement technicians to attach dial drop indicators to indicator holders, magnetic bases, transfer gages, and similar fixturing systems. The split collet design allows tool-free or minimal-tool clamping of the indicator stem, keeping the indicator firmly positioned during use.
This split collet is suited for use in machine shops, quality control labs, and on the shop floor where AGD dial indicators need to be mounted to standard indicator holders or arms. It fits applications in surface plate inspection, fixture checking, runout measurement, and bore alignment tasks where a secure, repeatable indicator mount is required. It is sold individually as a single unit.
Designed for use with AGD (American Gage Design) dial drop indicators. Refer to your indicator manufacturer specifications to confirm stem diameter and holder thread requirements before installation.
Installation is typically performed by metrology technicians or precision machinists. Ensure the indicator holder or arm threads are clean and free of damage before threading in the collet. Do not overtighten the collet clamping mechanism, as steel collets can score indicator stems if excessive force is applied. Verify that the 8.00 mm bore matches the indicator stem diameter before seating the indicator fully.
