The STARRETT 64610 is a horizontal-style dial test indicator designed for precision measurement in machining, inspection, and metrology applications. It features a jeweled movement and precision gear-driven design that delivers reliable readings across a 0.03 inch total range with 0.0005 inch graduations. The black dial reads 0-15-0, allowing bidirectional measurement without repositioning. The satin chrome finish and narrow body make it well-suited for close-tolerance work in tight spaces. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and quality control technicians are the primary users of this instrument.
This indicator is used in both shop-floor and inspection-room environments where surface variation, runout, concentricity, or part alignment must be verified to sub-thousandth accuracy. The angled head and adjustable contact point allow the probe to reach into recessed features or approach workpieces at angles that a standard plunger indicator cannot. It is appropriate for use on surface plates, mill tables, lathe spindles, and CMM fixtures. The dovetail mount accepts standard dovetail-style clamps and holders for quick setup and repositioning.
Designed for use with standard dovetail-style indicator holders, clamps, snug-and-rod units, and swivel post snugs. Includes a dovetail body clamp, snug and rod unit, swivel post snug with dovetail indicator clamp, and tool post holder for broad setup compatibility.
Mount the indicator using the included dovetail body clamp or compatible holder before bringing it into contact with the workpiece. Ensure the spindle or contact arm is aligned within the instrument's working angle range to avoid binding in the jeweled movement. Do not exceed the 0.03 inch maximum travel limit, as overtravel can damage the gear train. Calibrate against a known reference before beginning a measurement run.
