The STARRETT 64215 is a horizontal-style dial test indicator designed for precision measurement in machining, inspection, and quality-control applications. It covers a maximum measurement range of 0.06 inches with a graduation of 0.0005 inches, providing the fine resolution required for surface runout checks, part alignment, and comparative gauging tasks. The indicator features a jeweled movement and a precision gear-driven design for repeatable, low-friction readings. A satin chrome finish resists corrosion and glare. The 0-15-0 balanced dial face with a white background makes it easy to read deflection in either direction from zero. A revolution count hand tracks total travel across the full range.
This indicator is suited for use in tool rooms, machine shops, and quality inspection environments where horizontal clearance is limited and a narrow-body profile is necessary. It mounts via a standard dovetail and accepts the included 13/16-inch (20.64 mm) long carbide contact point. The angled head design allows access to confined workpiece features. Typical users include machinists, metrologists, and QC technicians working on mills, lathes, surface plates, and CMM fixtures.
Designed for use with standard dovetail-style indicator holders and mounting arms commonly used in machine shop and inspection environments. Accepts replaceable contact points with standard shank sizing.
Installation is performed by machinists or metrology technicians. Secure the dovetail shank firmly in the holder before use — a loose mount introduces measurement error. Zero the dial at the reference surface before taking comparative readings. Handle the indicator without dropping or striking the contact point, as impact can damage the jeweled movement and gear train.
