The STARRETT 57504 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die making, and precision machining applications. Measuring 3/32 inch thick, 2-1/2 inches wide, and 18 inches long, this flat stock is manufactured to tight dimensional tolerances: plus or minus 0.001 inch on thickness and squareness, plus 0.000 to 0.005 inch on width, and plus 0.250 inch on length. A2 tool steel offers excellent dimensional stability during heat treatment and good wear resistance, making it a reliable choice for cutting tools, punches, and forming dies. The bar ships in single-piece quantity.
This flat stock is suited for tool and die shops, machine shops, and maintenance departments that fabricate or repair precision tooling. Typical applications include blanking dies, forming tools, gauges, and custom tooling components. The pre-cut 18-inch length makes it practical for bench work where a full bar length is not required. Machinists and tool and die makers work with this material in its annealed state before heat treating to final hardness.
Designed as a standard A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock for use in tool and die fabrication, punch and die sets, gauges, and general precision tooling applications requiring air-hardening steel.
Tool and die makers and machinists work with this material using standard milling, grinding, and EDM equipment. The bar is supplied in the annealed condition and should be hardened and tempered per AISI A2 heat treat specifications by a qualified heat treater or in-shop furnace. Always follow shop safety protocols when cutting or grinding tool steel, including proper eye protection and ventilation. Consult material data sheets for specific heat treatment parameters before processing.
