The STARRETT 55061 is a low carbon steel flat stock bar made to AISI Type C1018 material specification. It measures 1-1/4 inches thick, 5 inches wide, and 24 inches long, and weighs 42.5 pounds. C1018 is a general-purpose low carbon steel known for its good machinability, weldability, and consistent mechanical properties. This flat stock is held to tight tolerances: thickness and square tolerance of plus or minus 0.001 inches, width tolerance of plus 0.000 to 0.005 inches, and length tolerance of plus 0.625 inches. It is used in fabrication, maintenance, and repair work across mechanical, industrial, and trade applications where a reliable, machinable steel bar is required.
This flat stock is suited for use in job shops, maintenance facilities, and fabrication environments. Typical applications include machining into custom brackets, shims, wear plates, keys, and structural components. The C1018 grade is widely accepted for parts that require moderate strength combined with ease of machining and welding. Machinists, millwrights, fabricators, and maintenance technicians regularly work with this material in both light industrial and heavy trade settings.
Designed as a general-purpose flat bar stock for machining, fabrication, and maintenance repair operations requiring AISI C1018 low carbon steel in a 1-1/4 x 5 x 24 inch form factor.
Handle with appropriate lifting equipment given the 42.5 pound weight. Cut, drill, or machine using tooling rated for low carbon steel stock. Follow standard shop safety practices including eye protection and secure workholding before any machining or cutting operations. Welding should be performed by qualified personnel following applicable AWS guidelines.
