The STARRETT 54960 is a low carbon steel flat stock bar made to AISI Type C1018 material specification. It measures 24 inches long, 5 inches wide, and 5/16 inch (0.3125 inches) thick, and weighs 10.62 pounds. C1018 is a general-purpose low carbon steel known for consistent machinability, weldability, and moderate strength, making it a practical choice for fabrication, fixture building, and toolroom work. Tolerances are held tight: length is +0.625 inches, width is +0.000 to +0.005 inches, and both thickness and squareness are held to +/- 0.001 inches. Machinists, fabricators, and maintenance technicians are the typical end users.
This flat stock is suited for light structural fabrication, jig and fixture components, machine bases, brackets, and general shop work where tight dimensional tolerances matter. The C1018 grade responds well to turning, milling, drilling, and welding operations without requiring exotic tooling or process controls. It is appropriate for both job shop and production environments where a consistent, readily available low carbon steel bar is needed. Individual pieces ship at a minimum order quantity of one.
Designed as a general-purpose low carbon steel flat bar for fabrication, toolroom, and maintenance applications where AISI C1018 material specification is required.
Cutting and machining should be performed by qualified machinists or fabricators using appropriate personal protective equipment and machine guards. Secure workpiece firmly before any cutting, drilling, or milling operation. Raw steel stock may have sharp edges and should be deburred before handling or final assembly. Follow applicable shop safety standards and local codes for material handling and machining operations.
