The STARRETT 54918 is a low carbon steel flat stock bar made to AISI Type C1018 specification. It measures 5/32 inch thick, 5 inches wide, and 24 inches long, weighing 5.3 pounds. C1018 is a mild, low carbon steel widely used in general fabrication, machining, and structural applications where moderate strength and good machinability are required. Tolerances are held tight for precision work: thickness and square tolerance are plus or minus 0.001 inch, width tolerance is plus 0.000 to 0.005 inch, and length tolerance is plus 0.625 inch. Licensed machinists, fabricators, millwrights, and maintenance technicians install and work with this material across a wide range of trade and industrial settings.
This flat stock is suited for use in light fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and industrial production environments. Typical applications include brackets, spacers, shims, keystock blanks, and general structural components where a machinable, weldable mild steel is specified. The 24-inch length makes it practical for bench-cut or saw-cut operations without significant waste. It is sold as a single piece per package with a minimum order quantity of one.
Designed as a general-purpose low carbon steel flat bar suitable for light fabrication, machining, and maintenance repair operations where AISI C1018 material specification is required.
Work with standard metalworking tools including band saws, milling machines, drill presses, and hand files. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and cut-resistant gloves when cutting or grinding. Deburr all cut edges before fitting or assembly. Follow applicable shop safety standards and local codes when welding or machining steel stock.
