The STARRETT 54773 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die making, and precision machining applications. Measuring 0.75 inches thick, 3 inches wide, and 18 inches long, this flat stock ships in a ground and precision-toleranced condition. Thickness and squareness tolerances are held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, while width tolerance runs from plus 0.000 to plus 0.005 inches and length tolerance is plus 0.250 inches. A2 tool steel offers good dimensional stability during air-hardening heat treatment, making it a preferred choice for punches, dies, and gauges. Machinists and toolmakers install this material in the annealed state before heat treating to final hardness.
This flat stock is suited for job shops, tool and die operations, and maintenance departments that fabricate or repair cutting tools, forming dies, and wear components. The 0.75 by 3 by 18 inch size provides enough stock for medium-sized die sections or multiple smaller tool blanks. Use appropriate personal protective equipment when cutting or grinding tool steel. Secure the workpiece properly before any machining operation to prevent movement and maintain dimensional accuracy.
