The STARRETT 54308 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die making, and precision machining applications. Manufactured to AISI Type O1 specification, this flat stock holds tight dimensional tolerances straight from stock, making it suitable for blanks, jigs, fixtures, and custom tooling components. The bar measures 0.125 inches thick, 3.5 inches wide, and 36 inches long and weighs 4.47 pounds. Thickness tolerance is plus or minus 0.001 inches, providing consistent stock removal and predictable heat-treat response across the full length.
This flat stock is intended for machinists, tool and die makers, and fabricators working in job shop, production, and maintenance-repair environments. O1 tool steel is a general-purpose oil-hardening grade well suited for punches, dies, gauges, and cutting tools where moderate wear resistance and good machinability in the annealed state are required. Heat treatment to final hardness should be performed by a qualified heat treater or toolroom professional following recognized procedures for AISI O1 tool steel. Always allow the workpiece to reach ambient temperature before taking final dimensional measurements. Hardened tool steel components should be handled with care to avoid edge chipping prior to any draw or tempering operation.
