The STARRETT 53301 is a dial drop indicator designed for precision dimensional measurement in machine shops, manufacturing facilities, and toolroom environments. It measures a total range of 0 to 0.2 inches with a fine graduation of 0.0001 inches, making it suitable for surface runout, alignment, and part inspection work. The dial reads 0-10 across a 2.25-inch white dial face and advances 0.01 inches per revolution. A jeweled bearing assembly reduces friction and supports consistent, repeatable readings. The stainless steel stem measures 0.375 inches in diameter and 0.7188 inches in length. A no-glare satin finish and unbreakable crystal protect the face in active shop conditions.
The 53301 is used in precision measurement applications across manufacturing, metalworking, and quality control settings. It mounts via a lug back and includes a flat back for versatile fixture setups. A built-in revolution counter lets the technician track cumulative travel across multiple revolutions without losing count. This indicator is suited for use with magnetic bases, surface plates, and indicator holders in both bench and machine-mounted configurations.
Designed as a standard AGD Group 2 dial drop indicator compatible with common lug back and flat back mounting fixtures, magnetic bases, and indicator holders that accept a 0.375-inch stem diameter.
Installation is performed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and quality control inspectors. Secure the indicator in a compatible holder or magnetic base before taking measurements, and verify the stem moves freely through its full range without binding. Always zero the indicator against a known reference surface before beginning measurement. Avoid side-loading the stem, as this can introduce error and accelerate bearing wear.
