The STARRETT 53223 is a dial drop indicator designed for high-precision measurement in machining, tooling, and inspection applications. It delivers a measurement range of 0 to 0.025 inches with a graduation of 0.0001 inches per division, giving technicians and machinists the resolution needed for tight-tolerance work. The 2.25-inch white dial features a no-glare satin finish and a 0-5-0 reading layout, making it easy to read in both directions. The unbreakable crystal and rugged construction support reliable use in shop environments. A jeweled bearing reduces wear and maintains accuracy over extended service.
This indicator is suited for use in machine shops, tool rooms, and quality-control stations where drop-style indicators are required for surface, runout, and alignment checks. It mounts via a lug back and ships with a flat back included, offering flexibility in fixturing. The stainless steel stem measures 0.375 inches in diameter and 0.7188 inches in length, fitting standard indicator holders and magnetic base setups. It operates in English units and covers 0.010 inches per revolution.
Designed as an OEM-style drop indicator for use with standard lug-back and flat-back indicator holders and magnetic bases common in machining and inspection setups.
Mounting and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or metrologist familiar with indicator fixturing. Secure the lug back or flat back attachment firmly to prevent movement during measurement. Avoid overtightening the stem clamp, as excess clamping force can distort stem alignment and affect reading accuracy. Zero the dial before taking measurements and verify the contact point is perpendicular to the surface being measured.
