The STARRETT 52958 is a 3-piece dial test indicator kit designed for precise surface, runout, and alignment measurements in machine shop, toolroom, and field service applications. Built around the Series 711 dial test indicator, the kit delivers a 0.03-inch measuring range with 0.0005-inch dial graduations and a 0-15-0 dial reading on a white face. The jeweled lever action and hard chrome-plated contact point support repeatable, low-force measurements. A positive reversing switch and swiveling tubular body allow positioning flexibility across a wide range of setups.
This kit is suited for machinists, tool and die makers, quality control technicians, and precision maintenance trades. It is commonly used to check concentricity, surface flatness, spindle runout, and fixture alignment on machine tools and inspection equipment. The included universal friction holder with shank allows mounting to most standard magnetic bases and indicator arms. The complete kit ships in a protective case, making it practical for both bench use and job-site transport.
Designed as an OEM-style precision measurement tool compatible with standard indicator holders, magnetic bases, and friction-mount arms used in machine shop and inspection environments.
Installation is performed by machinists or metrology technicians using standard indicator mounting hardware. Power down or lock out any machine spindle or moving axis before securing the indicator in contact with a work surface. Ensure the friction holder shank is firmly seated in the mounting arm before taking readings. Contact points are interchangeable and should be inspected for wear before precision measurements.
