The STARRETT 50944 is a mechanical outside micrometer designed for precision linear measurement in machining, fabrication, and inspection applications. It covers a measurement range of 0 to 1 inch with a graduation of 0.0001 inches and an accuracy of 0.000050 inches, making it suitable for close-tolerance work. The micrometer features a ratchet stop thimble for consistent measuring force and an advanced sleeve design for improved readability. Solid carbide measuring faces on both the anvil and spindle resist wear during repeated use. A satin chrome finish reduces glare under shop lighting. This tool is used by machinists, quality control technicians, toolmakers, and precision tradespeople.
The STARRETT 50944 is suited for dimensional inspection of turned parts, ground stock, shafts, and similar workpieces in both production and maintenance environments. It is a standard hand tool in machine shops, tool rooms, and manufacturing facilities where inch-system measurement is required. The lock nut and wrench included with the unit allow the spindle to be secured at a set position for transferring measurements or go/no-go checks.
Designed as a standard inch-system outside micrometer for measuring external dimensions on round, flat, and machined workpieces up to 1 inch in diameter or thickness.
Outside micrometers require no installation but should be calibrated against a known standard before use. Clean the anvil and spindle faces before each measurement to prevent debris from affecting accuracy. Store the micrometer with the faces slightly open to prevent thermal expansion damage. Servicing or recalibration should be performed by a qualified metrology technician.
