The STARRETT 02059 is a portable electronic hardness tester built for field and shop measurement of material hardness on the Shore D scale. It delivers a measurement range of 0 to 100 Shore D with an accuracy of less than 1 percent, making it suitable for testing hard rubbers, rigid plastics, and similar semi-rigid materials. The unit ships complete with a custom rugged carry case, keeping the instrument protected during transport between job sites or lab environments. Technicians in manufacturing, quality control, and material inspection rely on this tester for fast, repeatable durometer readings without bench equipment.
The STARRETT 02059 is well suited for industrial and trade applications where material hardness verification is required in the field. Typical use cases include incoming material inspection, production floor QC checks, and service calls where confirming durometer of gaskets, seals, rollers, or plastic components is part of the diagnostic process. The Shore D scale specifically targets harder materials that fall outside the effective range of Shore A instruments.
Designed for hardness measurement of hard rubbers, rigid plastics, and similar materials where Shore D scale measurement applies.
No installation is required for this instrument. Before taking measurements, ensure the test surface is flat, clean, and large enough to prevent edge effects from influencing the reading. Apply the indenter foot perpendicular to the surface with firm, steady pressure as specified in ASTM D2240 test method procedures. Store the unit in the included carry case when not in use to protect the indenter tip and sensing mechanism.
