The SQUARE D BR220 is a 2-pole, plug-on load center circuit breaker rated at 20 amps and 120/240 volts AC. It features common-trip operation, meaning both poles trip simultaneously on an overcurrent event, providing coordinated protection for 240-volt branch circuits. With a 10 kiloamp interrupting rating, it handles the fault-current levels typical of residential and light commercial panelboards. Licensed electricians install this breaker as a new branch-circuit device or a direct replacement in compatible BR series load centers. It accepts 14 to 4 AWG copper or aluminum conductors and carries UL 489 listing for branch-circuit protection.
The BR220 is suited for residential and light commercial electrical systems where a double-pole, 20-amp branch circuit is required. Typical applications include 240-volt circuits feeding HVAC equipment, water heaters, dryers, and subpanels. It installs in BR series load centers using a plug-on mounting style, seating directly onto the bus bar without additional hardware. Electricians replacing aging or tripped breakers in existing BR series panels will find this a direct plug-on fit.
Designed for use in BR series load centers. Specific compatible panel models should be verified against the load center manufacturer documentation prior to installation.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and all applicable local codes. De-energize the load center and verify the main breaker is off before handling any internal panel components. Confirm the existing panel is a BR series load center before installing this breaker. Torque all conductor terminations to the values marked on the breaker label.
