The SPORLAN 169359 is a Type R thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) designed for low-temperature refrigeration applications using R-404A refrigerant. It features an external equalizer and a straight-through body configuration, making it well suited for systems where accurate superheat control is required at suction pressures corresponding to evaporator temperatures down to -40 degrees F. The valve carries a nominal capacity of 1.5 tons and connects via 3/8-inch inlet, 1/2-inch outlet, and 1/4-inch external equalizer SAE fittings. The 5-foot capillary tube provides flexible bulb placement during installation. Refrigeration mechanics and HVAC-R technicians install this valve as part of the refrigerant metering circuit in commercial low-temperature systems.
This TXV is rated for low-temperature refrigeration duty, covering evaporator temperature ranges from 0 to -40 degrees F under the C refrigerant charge designation. Typical applications include walk-in freezers, reach-in display cases, and other commercial refrigeration equipment operating on R-404A. The external equalizer port allows the valve to compensate for pressure drop across the evaporator, maintaining consistent superheat control across varying load conditions. This model is identified by Sporlan model number RSE-1-1/2-C and is intended for professional installation in commercial refrigeration circuits.
Designed for use with R-404A refrigerant in commercial low-temperature refrigeration systems. Compatible with systems requiring a Type R external equalizer TXV with SAE 3/8-inch x 1/2-inch x 1/4-inch connections. Sporlan model RSE-1-1/2-C.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC-R technician or refrigeration mechanic holding EPA Section 608 certification for the refrigerant type in use. Recover all refrigerant and depressurize the system before removing or installing the valve. Mount the thermostatic bulb securely to the suction line at the evaporator outlet and insulate it from ambient air to ensure accurate superheat sensing. Connect the external equalizer line downstream of the bulb location on the suction side of the evaporator.
