The SPI Z6301 is a ruby ball contact point designed for use with dial-type test indicators. The contact point measures 1-7/16 inches in length and features a 2.00 mm ruby ball tip. Ruby is a preferred tip material in precision metrology because it offers high hardness, low friction, and excellent wear resistance, maintaining dimensional accuracy over repeated measurement cycles. This contact point is installed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and calibration professionals who require consistent, repeatable contact geometry in surface, bore, or feature inspection work.
This contact point is suited for applications in machine shops, quality control labs, and toolroom environments where a test indicator is used to check runout, flatness, alignment, or part location. The ruby ball tip reduces the risk of surface scratching on finished or hardened workpieces. It is a direct-fit accessory for Brown and Sharpe test indicators and is appropriate for use in both manual and fixture-mounted indicator setups.
Designed for use with Brown and Sharpe test indicators as stated by the manufacturer.
Contact points are installed and serviced by machinists or metrology technicians. Before replacing a contact point, remove the indicator from any active fixture or spindle to avoid accidental damage. Use the appropriate contact point wrench or driver to avoid stressing the indicator stem threads. Verify that the replacement point is fully seated and torqued per the indicator manufacturer guidelines before returning the instrument to service.
