The SPI Z3100 is a CMM ball stylus designed for use with coordinate measuring machines in precision metrology applications. It features a 2 mm ruby ball tip mounted on an M2-threaded stem with an overall length of 20 mm. The ruby point material provides excellent hardness and low friction contact, supporting repeatable, accurate measurements across successive probing cycles. This stylus is installed by metrology technicians, quality control engineers, and calibration specialists working in manufacturing, inspection, and tooling environments.
The Z3100 is suited for use in tight-tolerance dimensional inspection setups where a compact, lightweight stylus is required. The M2 thread interface is a widely used standard in CMM probing systems, making this stylus compatible with a broad range of touch-trigger and scanning probe bodies that accept M2 connections. It is commonly used in production inspection of machined components, castings, and fabricated parts where surface contact measurement is required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or supplemental stylus for CMM probe systems accepting M2-threaded ball styli.
CMM styli should be installed and changed by qualified metrology personnel following the CMM manufacturer's recommended procedures. Power down or place the CMM in a safe parked state before changing styli to avoid probe head damage. Use the appropriate stylus wrench or tool recommended by the probe manufacturer — hand-tightening only is standard practice, as overtightening M2 threads can damage the probe body or stylus shank. Perform a qualification routine on the reference sphere after every stylus change before resuming measurement programs.
