The SPI MS160712035 is a magnetic indicator base with an articulated arm, designed to hold dial indicators, test indicators, and similar precision measuring instruments during inspection and machining operations. The base features a built-in on/off switch that controls the magnetic force, allowing the technician to position and reposition the base quickly without disturbing the setup. With a magnetic pull rating of 130 kg, the base provides a firm, stable hold on ferrous surfaces. The articulated arm extends to 27.16 inches of reach, giving the user flexible positioning for a wide range of measurement tasks. Machinists, quality control technicians, and toolroom professionals install and use this type of base daily.
The MS160712035 is suited for use on machine tool tables, surface plates, lathe beds, milling machine tables, and other flat or curved ferrous surfaces where a rigid, adjustable indicator mount is required. The on/off switch eliminates the need to slide or pry the base free, reducing surface marring and saving setup time. The articulated arm accommodates both vertical and horizontal indicator positioning, making it practical for checking runout, parallelism, flatness, and bore alignment in production and inspection environments.
Designed as a standard-style magnetic indicator base compatible with dial indicators, test indicators, and similar precision instruments that use a stem mounting up to 0.38 inches in diameter.
Position the base on a clean, flat ferrous surface and engage the magnet using the on/off switch before attaching the indicator. Ensure the surface is free of chips, coolant buildup, or debris that could reduce magnetic contact and holding force. The articulated arm joints should be tightened securely before taking measurements to eliminate flex or drift in the reading. Do not use on non-ferrous surfaces such as aluminum or granite surface plates, as the magnet will not engage.
