The SPI MS160712031 is a magnetic indicator base designed to hold dial indicators, test indicators, and similar precision measuring instruments during inspection and layout work. The base uses a switchable permanent magnet to secure the unit to ferrous machine surfaces, allowing the technician to position an indicator arm without additional clamping hardware. Rated at 100 kg magnetic pull, the base provides a stable, vibration-resistant platform. An on/off switch lets the installer engage or release the magnet quickly without disturbing the measurement setup. The base measures 2.87 inches long, 2 inches wide, and 2.16 inches tall and weighs 4 pounds.
This magnetic indicator base is used in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and manufacturing environments where dial or test indicators must be temporarily mounted to mill tables, lathe beds, surface plates, or similar ferrous workholding surfaces. It is suited for quality control inspection, runout checks, surface alignment, and fixture setup. The articulating rod and arm extend the reach of the indicator to difficult-to-access workpiece surfaces. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and precision metrology personnel are the primary users.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit magnetic base for standard dial indicators and test indicators that use a 0.38-inch diameter mounting stem.
Place the base on a clean, flat ferrous surface free of chips, coolant, or debris before engaging the magnet to ensure full magnetic contact. Engage the on/off switch only after the base is properly positioned to avoid uncontrolled movement of the indicator assembly. Verify that the mounting stem is fully seated and the articulating arm is locked at each joint before taking measurements. Deactivate the magnet before repositioning the base to prevent surface scratches on precision machine tables.
