The SPI CMS160809101 is a mechanical depth micrometer designed for precise depth measurement in machining, metalworking, and inspection applications. It covers a measurement range of 150 mm using a set of 6 interchangeable rotating rods with a diameter of 0.176 inches (4.5 mm). The ratchet stop thimble delivers consistent measuring pressure to reduce operator-to-operator variation. Graduation is 0.01 mm with an accuracy of 0.005 mm, making it suitable for close-tolerance work. The 63 mm base length provides stable contact across stepped or recessed surfaces. The unit ships calibrated and includes a NIST-traceable short-form certificate of calibration.
This depth micrometer is used in precision measurement tasks on machine tools, fixtures, molds, and machined components. It is suited for metrology labs, tool rooms, and production floor inspection where depth, step, and slot measurements must meet tight tolerances. The 6-rod configuration allows the single micrometer head to span the full 150 mm range without a separate tool for each increment. The hardened steel measuring faces resist wear during repeated use in industrial environments.
Designed as a standard mechanical depth micrometer suitable for general-purpose precision measurement in tool rooms, machine shops, and quality inspection environments where 0.01 mm resolution is required.
Depth micrometers are handled and used by machinists, metrologists, and quality control technicians rather than installed in a system. Before use, verify the zero setting with the base seated flat on a reference surface and all rod extensions fully retracted. Protect the hardened measuring faces from impact and store the instrument in the included case when not in use. Recalibration intervals should follow the facility quality management program and applicable metrology standards.
