The SPI CMS160714030 is a dial drop indicator designed for precision measurement in machining, inspection, and quality control applications. It covers a measurement range of 0 to 2 inches with a dial graduation of 0.001 inches and a range of 0.1 inches per revolution, giving technicians fine-resolution readings across a wide travel span. Accuracy is rated at 0.004 inches. The indicator features a lug back mount, a black dial face with a 0-100 reading scale, and a built-in revolution counter for tracking total travel without losing position. A NIST Traceability Certification is included with each unit, meeting US Federal Specifications and AGD Group 2 standards.
This indicator is suited for use in precision machine shops, tool rooms, and inspection departments. Typical applications include runout checks, surface comparisons, fixture alignment, and part-to-part tolerance verification. The 3/8-inch stem diameter and lug back design allow for flexible mounting in standard magnetic bases, surface gauge holders, and dedicated indicator arms. The universal positioning capability supports a wide range of setup orientations on mills, lathes, surface plates, and CMM fixtures.
Designed for use with standard 3/8-inch stem dial indicator holders, magnetic bases, and surface gauge arms commonly found in machine shop and inspection environments. Compatible with AGD Group 2 indicator mounting systems.
Installation is performed by machinists, metrologists, or quality technicians using a standard indicator holder or magnetic base clamp. Secure the lug back or stem firmly before zeroing the dial to avoid measurement drift. Apply only the minimum clamping force needed to hold the indicator steady. Do not exceed the rated measuring force of 1.5 newtons on the contact point, as excessive force can affect accuracy and damage the spindle mechanism.
