The SPI 61R-12"-.0005 is a precision inspection block level designed for high-accuracy surface and machinery alignment work. Built from cast iron, this level measures 12 inches in length and delivers a graduation sensitivity of 0.0005 inches per 10 inches, making it suitable for applications where tight flatness tolerances are required. The base flatness is held to 0.0002 inches, ensuring a reliable reference surface. Two vials are included for reading level in multiple orientations. This tool is used by machinists, metrology technicians, and precision mechanics performing equipment setup, surface plate inspection, and machine tool alignment.
This inspection block level is used in precision machining and industrial maintenance environments where surface flatness and machine alignment must be verified to tight tolerances. Typical applications include leveling machine tool bases, aligning milling machines and lathes, and verifying the flatness of surface plates and inspection fixtures. It is suited for both shop floor use and controlled metrology environments. The cast iron construction provides thermal stability and resistance to wear during repeated contact with machined surfaces.
Designed as an OEM-style precision inspection tool for use on surface plates, machine tool beds, and other flat reference surfaces requiring high-sensitivity level measurement.
Installation and use of precision inspection levels is typically performed by machinists or metrology technicians. Before placing the level on any surface, clean both the base of the level and the reference surface thoroughly to remove chips, oils, or debris that could introduce measurement error. Handle the cast iron body carefully to avoid damage to the precision-ground base. Do not use this level as a straightedge or apply lateral force, as this can affect vial accuracy and base flatness over time.
