The SPI 40-146-3 is a pocket comparator designed for close-tolerance inspection work in the field or at a workbench. It delivers up to 10x magnification through a 1.375-inch diameter lens, allowing technicians and quality control personnel to examine surface finish, thread profiles, edge conditions, and small part geometry against known reference reticles. The unit ships with five interchangeable reticles — numbered 1, 5, 7, 8, and 12 — giving inspectors multiple measurement and comparison overlays in a single compact tool. At 0.35 pounds, it is light enough for pocket carry on the job site or shop floor.
The 40-146-3 is well-suited for machinists, metrology technicians, quality assurance inspectors, and maintenance trades who need portable, immediate visual measurement capability. Common applications include verifying thread pitch, checking radius and angle conformance, inspecting weld geometry, and examining fine surface detail on parts that cannot be brought to a fixed inspection station. The compact form factor makes it practical for use in tight spaces or during in-process inspection on production lines.
Designed as a general-purpose pocket comparator for use with standard interchangeable reticles in inspection and quality control applications.
No installation is required. The 40-146-3 is a handheld inspection tool used directly at the point of measurement. Reticles should be kept clean and free of dust or oils to maintain optical clarity. Store in a protective case when not in use to prevent lens and reticle damage.
