The SPI 29-007-2 is an electronic drop indicator designed for precise dimensional measurement in machining, metrology, and quality-control applications. It covers a measurement range of 0.0000 to 1.0000 inches with an accuracy of 0.0005 inches and a resolution of 0.0005 inches. The electronic readout eliminates the interpretation errors common with analog dial indicators, making it a dependable tool for surface plate work, fixture checking, and machine setup. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and quality technicians are the primary users of this instrument.
The 29-007-2 is suited for shop-floor and inspection-room use where repeatable, high-resolution linear measurement is required. Typical applications include runout checks, flatness verification, part-to-part comparison, and setup work on mills, lathes, and surface grinders. Its drop-indicator geometry allows it to be mounted in magnetic-base holders or indicator stands for hands-free operation during setup routines. The compact envelope makes it practical in tight fixture arrangements.
Designed as a standard drop-style electronic indicator compatible with conventional dovetail or lug-back magnetic bases and indicator holders used in general machining and metrology setups.
Mount the indicator in a rigid magnetic base or indicator stand before zeroing the display. Ensure the spindle axis is aligned perpendicular to the measurement surface to avoid cosine error. Power down or remove the battery before storing to preserve battery life. Handle the instrument carefully to avoid shock loads to the spindle, which can affect calibration.
