The SPI 21-532-7 is a vertical-style dial test indicator designed for precise dimensional measurement in machining, inspection, and quality-control applications. It covers a range of 0 to 0.06 inches with a graduation of 0.0005 inches per division, allowing resolution fine enough for close-tolerance work. Accuracy is rated at 0.0012 inches. The indicator uses a jeweled bearing movement for consistent, low-friction operation and mounts via a standard dovetail fitting compatible with common indicator holders and magnetic bases. A NIST-traceable short-form calibration certificate is included, supporting documentation requirements for regulated inspection environments.
This indicator is suited for machine shop inspection, surface plate work, fixture setup, and in-process measurement on mills, lathes, and grinding equipment. The 0-15-0 bidirectional dial scale with a 1.5-inch white dial face makes readings straightforward during both push and pull contact movement. The 210-degree contact point swivel angle provides access in tight or angled setups. A revolution counter tracks cumulative travel, and the rotating dial bezel allows zeroing at any contact position. Typical installers include machinists, quality technicians, and metrology professionals.
Designed as a dovetail-mount vertical dial test indicator for use with standard indicator holders, magnetic base arms, and surface plate fixtures common in machine shop and inspection environments.
Secure the dovetail shank firmly in the holder before taking measurements to prevent movement that would affect accuracy. Contact point should be positioned perpendicular to the measured surface whenever possible to minimize cosine error. Avoid overtightening the clamping screw on the dovetail mount, as this can distort the shank and affect dial repeatability. Handle the instrument carefully to protect the jeweled movement from shock or impact.
