The SPI 21-062-5 is a carbide ball contact point designed for use with dial-type test indicators. It serves as the sensing tip that contacts the workpiece surface during precision measurement, transferring movement to the indicator mechanism. The ball tip measures 0.078 inches in diameter and the overall contact point length is 1.45 inches. Carbide construction provides superior wear resistance compared to steel tips, making this contact point suitable for high-cycle inspection environments where dimensional accuracy is critical. Metrology technicians and machinist inspectors install and swap contact points as part of routine gauge setup.
This contact point is intended for use with Interapid test indicators in machine shop, toolroom, and quality control settings. It is appropriate for applications requiring a small-diameter ball tip to access tight features, measure inside bores, or trace contoured surfaces where a standard flat or pointed contact would not provide reliable results.
Designed for use with Interapid test indicators as stated by the manufacturer.
Contact point replacement is performed by metrology technicians or machinists and requires no special certifications. Before swapping the contact point, ensure the indicator is removed from the spindle or fixture and the measuring mechanism is in a relaxed, unloaded position. Use the appropriate wrench or pin spanner as specified for the indicator model to avoid damaging the threaded contact stem. Do not overtighten, as the threads on precision indicator styli are fine and can be damaged by excessive torque.
