The SPI 20-208-5 is a magnetic indicator base designed to hold dial indicators, test indicators, and similar precision measuring instruments during inspection and layout work. It uses a switchable permanent magnet to secure the base to ferrous surfaces such as machine tables, surface plates, and workholding fixtures. The base produces a magnetic pull force of 300 N, providing stable, vibration-resistant holding during measurement tasks. The articulating post and arm assembly extends to accommodate a wide range of positioning requirements. This tool is used by machinists, quality control technicians, and tool-and-die professionals in machine shops and manufacturing environments.
The SPI 20-208-5 is suited for use on manual mills, lathes, surface grinders, and inspection tables where a rigid, repositionable indicator mount is required. The post height of approximately 16.14 inches and the arm length of approximately 14.17 inches allow the indicator to be positioned over workpieces of varying heights and geometries. It is appropriate for both shop-floor and metrology-room applications where repeatable indicator placement is critical to dimensional verification.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-use magnetic base for precision dial indicators and test indicators mounted on ferrous surfaces in machine shop and inspection environments.
Power down or stop any rotating machinery before attaching or repositioning the magnetic base on a machine tool surface. Ensure the mounting surface is clean and free of chips or coolant film to achieve full magnetic contact and rated holding force. Tighten all arm and post locking knobs securely before taking measurements to prevent indicator drift. This tool does not require installation by a licensed trade but should be handled by personnel familiar with precision measurement practices.
