The SPI 14-871-8 is a 4-piece adjustable parallel set designed for precision workholding and setup applications in machining and toolroom environments. The set spans an adjustment range of 3/8 inch to 1-5/16 inch, allowing a single set to cover a wide variety of workpiece heights without swapping between fixed parallels. Each parallel measures 3-9/16 inches in length and 9/32 inch in thickness. The hardened steel construction provides the rigidity and flatness required for accurate vise setups, surface grinding support, and inspection work. Machinists, toolmakers, and machine shop technicians are the primary users of this type of tooling.
Adjustable parallel sets are used in manual and CNC machine shops to support and level workpieces in milling vises, grinding fixtures, and inspection setups. Because the height is continuously adjustable within the stated range, one pair can replace multiple sets of fixed parallels for a given job. The 4-piece count in this set provides two matched pairs, allowing simultaneous front-and-back support of a workpiece. Typical applications include workpiece leveling before milling, height referencing on surface plates, and part support during layout operations.
Designed as an OEM-style precision accessory for use with standard milling vises, surface grinders, and inspection fixtures requiring adjustable workpiece support in the 3/8 inch to 1-5/16 inch height range.
Adjustable parallels are installed by machinists and toolmakers as part of workpiece setup prior to machining or grinding. Before placing the workpiece, verify that both parallels in a pair are set to the same height by using a micrometer or height gauge. Clean all mating surfaces to remove chips and coolant residue that could affect seating accuracy. Do not use these parallels as a substitute for proper workholding clamps or vise jaws.
