The SPI 11-966-9 is an electronic drop indicator designed for precision dimensional measurement in machining, inspection, and quality control applications. It features an LCD display and delivers a maximum measurement range of 1 inch (25.00 mm) with a resolution of 0.000050 inches (0.0010 mm) and an accuracy of 0.000200 inches (0.0040 mm). The center lug flat back mounting style allows secure attachment to magnetic bases, indicator holders, and surface plate setups. Power is supplied by an included CR2032 battery. This tool is used by machinists, tool and die makers, and metrology technicians who require reliable, repeatable readings in both inch and metric units.
The 11-966-9 is suited for use in machine shops, manufacturing facilities, and inspection departments where runout, flatness, parallelism, and part deviation checks are performed regularly. Its dual-unit readout supports both inch and metric measurement without tool changes, making it a practical choice for shops working to mixed drawing standards. The 3/8-inch stem diameter is the AGD Group 2 standard, compatible with the vast majority of production indicator holders and accessories already in use on the shop floor.
The 3/8-inch stem diameter and AGD Group 2 designation make this indicator compatible with standard indicator holders, magnetic base clamps, and dial indicator accessories designed for AGD Group 2 instruments.
Installation is performed by machinists and metrology technicians using a standard indicator holder or magnetic base clamp sized for a 3/8-inch stem. Secure the stem firmly in the holder before zeroing the instrument to prevent slippage during measurement. Avoid overtightening the stem clamp, as excessive clamping force can affect spindle movement and measurement accuracy. Zero the display after positioning the contact point against the reference surface and confirm the measuring force specification of 2.20 N is not exceeded by the setup.
