The SPEARS 54211178164 is a flush reducing bushing designed to transition between a 1-1/2 inch spigot connection and a 1/2 inch female NPT (FNPT) threaded port in pressure piping systems. Molded from CPVC, this fitting is rated to Schedule 80/XH wall thickness, making it suitable for demanding pressure applications where standard Schedule 40 fittings fall short. At 1-11/16 inches in length, the flush-style design seats cleanly inside a socket fitting without protruding, maintaining a compact inline profile. Plumbers and pipefitters install this bushing when reducing line size at a threaded branch or transition point in chemical, hot-water, or industrial fluid systems.
This bushing is used in residential and commercial pressure piping installations where CPVC is specified for its chemical resistance and elevated temperature tolerance. Typical applications include hot and cold domestic water systems, chemical processing lines, and industrial fluid distribution where a spigot-to-FNPT size reduction is required. The SCH 80/XH rating makes it appropriate for higher-pressure service conditions compared to standard-wall fittings.
Designed as an OEM-style pressure fitting replacement or new-installation component for SCH 80 CPVC piping systems using 1-1/2 inch spigot and 1/2 inch FNPT connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable plumbing codes such as the IPC. Shut off and depressurize the line before removing any existing fitting or installing this bushing. CPVC solvent cement rated for SCH 80 CPVC must be used on the spigot end; apply primer and cement per the cement manufacturer's instructions and allow full cure time before pressurizing the system. Do not use petroleum-based thread sealants on the FNPT connection; use PTFE tape or a sealant rated compatible with CPVC.
