The SOUTHWIRE P40001-1A is an unshielded multi-conductor plenum cable rated for 300 VAC and designed for low-voltage signal, control, and communications wiring in air-handling spaces. Built to UL Type CMP and CL3P classifications, this cable uses 18 AWG bare stranded copper conductors with a 19-strand configuration and a resistance of 2.52 ohms per 1000 feet. The PVC insulation and PVC jacket carry a beige/natural finish and are rated for service from -20 to 75 degrees C. It ships on a 1000 ft reel with an outside diameter of 0.206 inches. Licensed electricians and low-voltage contractors install this cable in commercial and institutional buildings where air-plenum routing is required by code.
This cable is suited for residential and commercial installations where the cable pathway runs through environmental air spaces such as above suspended ceilings or within raised-floor plenums. Typical applications include remote control wiring, security systems, intercom and public address systems, sound and audio distribution, nurse call systems, and general communications runs. NEC Article 725 and 800 govern the use of CL3P and CMP-rated cables in these environments, making this product appropriate where plenum fire-rating is required by the authority having jurisdiction.
Designed for use in remote control, signaling, security systems, communications, intercom and public address systems, sound and audio distribution, and nurse call applications where UL Type CMP or CL3P plenum-rated cable is specified.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician or qualified low-voltage contractor in accordance with the National Electrical Code, specifically NEC Articles 725 and 800, and any applicable local amendments. De-energize all circuits in the work area before pulling or terminating cable. When routing through plenum air spaces, verify that the plenum rating meets the requirements specified by the authority having jurisdiction. Avoid sharp bends and excessive pulling tension to maintain conductor integrity and insulation quality along the run.
