The SOUTHWIRE ELR40090 is a 90-degree rigid conduit elbow sized for 4-inch rigid metal conduit (RMC) systems. It provides a fixed-angle change of direction in conduit runs where rigid steel conduit is required by code or application. Electricians use this fitting to route conductors around structural obstacles, transition between wall and ceiling runs, or complete underground and exposed conduit installations. The sweeping 90-degree bend maintains wire-pulling clearance and supports code-compliant conductor bend radius requirements in commercial, industrial, and heavy-duty residential electrical systems.
This elbow is suited for use in large-diameter conduit systems where 4-inch RMC is specified. Typical installations include service entrance conduit runs, industrial feeder raceways, underground direct-burial conduit systems, and exposed conduit in utility and mechanical rooms. It is also commonly used in high-capacity branch circuit and feeder routing where rigid metal conduit is mandated for physical protection of conductors.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fitting for 4-inch rigid metal conduit systems. Also referenced under Madison Electric ELR-40090 and Topaz 70.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local codes. De-energize all circuits in the conduit run before beginning work. Secure the elbow using approved RMC couplings and ensure all joints are properly threaded and tightened. Use listed conduit supports at intervals required by the NEC for the conduit size and installation type.
