The SOUTHWIRE/COLEMAN CABLE 55278323 is a 100-foot coil of 14/2 ACT armored cable designed for branch-circuit wiring in residential and light commercial electrical installations. The cable features two 14 AWG copper conductors protected by a steel armor jacket, with an aluminum bond wire serving as the equipment ground. Rated to 90 degrees C, this cable is suited for dry, damp, and certain exposed wiring conditions where physical protection of conductors is required. Licensed electricians install this type of armored cable in applications where conduit is impractical or where local codes require additional mechanical protection.
This 14/2 ACT armored cable is commonly used in residential construction and renovation projects for lighting circuits, outlet branch circuits, and similar 15-amp applications. The steel jacket provides impact and crush resistance compared to standard NM-B cable, making it appropriate for exposed runs in unfinished spaces, along framing, or in areas subject to physical contact. The coil format allows straightforward handling and routing during rough-in work.
Designed as a standard 14/2 ACT armored cable replacement or new-installation product for residential and light commercial branch circuits requiring mechanical protection per applicable electrical codes.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and all applicable local amendments. De-energize and lock out the circuit at the panel before making any connections. Use an approved armored cable cutter to cut the steel jacket cleanly without nicking conductor insulation. Secure and support the cable at intervals required by NEC, and use listed ACT fittings and connectors at all junction and panel entries.
